Kay Wolf would probably have imagined his start to his new job in Garching near Munich differently. Wolf has only been working at the Pfandbrief bank based there for five weeks and he has only officially been leading the bank as CEO for a week. Now of all times, when the real estate bank has suddenly become the focus of – almost – global financial market interest. The bank’s stock and bond prices have fallen dramatically for weeks. Recently, highly speculative hedge funds also expanded their bets on further price losses for the financial institution. There is a hint of financial crisis in the air, and even on Wall Street many people now know the name Pfandbriefbank.
