“Petromelancholia”: Exhibition on the end of the oil age in Rotterdam – Culture

The port of Rotterdam is the ideal location for an art exhibition about the history and the imagined end of the oil age. After the city center was completely destroyed by German bombs in May 1940, Rotterdam was rebuilt after the Second World War as a modern “Petrocity”, with a passage now almost 40 kilometers long between the city center and the artificial harbor islands in front of it, which is entirely dedicated to transshipment and processing and the transport of crude oil through refineries and pipelines.
