Fuel prices are showing a slow decline again. Super petrol of the E10 variety cost 2.048 euros per liter on a nationwide daily average on Tuesday, as announced by the ADAC on Wednesday. That’s 1.6 cents less than the day before. On a weekly basis, the decline is 3.2 cents. Diesel yielded 1.9 cents from Monday to Tuesday and cost 2.154 euros per liter. On a weekly basis, the price also fell by 1.9 cents.
Fuel is “still much too expensive” for the ADAC. A look at the price of oil and the dollar, which normally plays a central role in the price of fuel, also shows this: “While oil and the dollar were at a similarly high level on March 1st and March 29th, gasoline cost around 22 cents more on March 29th on the first of the month. Diesel was even almost 40 cents more expensive than four weeks ago,” the association criticized the interest group. Compared to the level before the beginning of the war, diesel has even become more expensive by a good 49 cents, and E10 by almost 30 cents.
The differences between raw material and petrol station prices are not only noticeable to the ADAC. Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) wants to give the Federal Cartel Office more rights to control petrol and diesel prices. In the future, the authority should also be able to check the production of fuels and the wholesale trade. “The current situation must not be used as a cover for unfair competition or hidden agreements,” the ministry said. “That’s why we are strengthening the market transparency office for fuels at the Federal Cartel Office.” This is provided for in a draft law that has been sent to the other ministries for approval. If possible, the cabinet should get the amendment to the law against restrictions on competition on the way before Easter. Habeck is implementing an agreement from the coalition committee of the SPD, Greens and FDP, which agreed on a relief package for energy costs last week.
