She used to be a “crime scene” commissioner, now Petra Schmidt-Schaller plays a doctor in the ARD series “A step to the abyss” who takes revenge on her unfaithful husband. A conversation about cheating, jealousy and accusations against working mothers.
Ms. Schmidt-Schaller, you play the doctor Jana Hansen in the ARD mini-series “A step to the abyss”. When she discovers that her husband is cheating on her, she sets out on a veritable vendetta. What drew you to play the character?
I was very interested in the development of the character. I found it fascinating to discuss what this event does to her, which is that her husband is cheating on her. How jealousy can turn into revenge and this thought of revenge then drives you to extreme actions. I don’t know anything like that personally. I can be jealous, but only in a mild form. This expression as with Jana Hansen was new to me.
