After the unsuccessful cinema adaptations: The “Percy Jackson” series starts in December 2023 on Disney +.

“Percy Jackson: The Series” starts later this year. From December 20, 2023, the first two episodes of the fantasy series will be available on Disney+. This was the streaming service in a new teaser for the adaptation of the books by Rick Riordan (59). A later date was expected in the industry.

After the double whammy at the start, a new episode of “Percy Jackson” will be available every week, as Disney + announced in a press release.

New attempt after failed cinema adaptation

Like the film adaptation from 2010, “Percy Jackson: The Series” is based on “Diebe im Olymp”, the first volume of the young adult book series that was published in 2005. Twelve-year-old Percy learns that he is a demigod and the son of the Greek god of the sea, Poseidon. Father of the gods Zeus accuses him of having stolen his master bolt. Percy sets out to prove his innocence.

The title character embodies Walker Scobell (14). The young actor is known, among other things, from “The Adam Project” (2022). In the Netflix film he plays the younger version of the main character played by Ryan Reynolds (46).

Percy’s best friend Annabeth (a daughter of Athena) plays Leah Sava Jeffries, while Aryan Simhardi plays the buck-legged satyr Grover. Lance Reddick (“John Wick”), who died on March 17, 2023, can be seen as Zeus in one of his last roles.

The film adaptations of “Percy Jackson” did not have the expected success. After the second part “Im Ban des Cyclops” (2013) the planned franchise was over. In particular, fans of the novels were disappointed that Percy’s age was raised from 12 to 17. Unlike the theatrical versions, writer Rick Riordan is executive producing the series.
