Pensions in the Senate, record CO2 emissions and Annecy bring down OM

Did you miss the news this early morning? We’ve put together a recap to help you see things more clearly.

The pension reform arrives this Thursday in the hemicycle of the Senate. On the other hand, the debates are expected to be much more balanced than in the National Assembly. Because if the left is determined to oppose it, the right-wing majority of the upper house is rather favorable to the text.

The question now is whether the 110 hours of discussion scheduled, a third more than at the Palais-Bourbon in February according to the right, will make it possible to reach the final vote before the gong on March 12 at midnight. In any case, this is the wish expressed on Wednesday by President Gérard Larcher, for whom “the Senate owes citizens and social partners a debate on the entire text”, despite the 4,718 amendments.

The many alerts do nothing about it: the world continues to pollute. Global energy-related CO2 emissions increased further in 2022, by 0.9%, to reach a new record of more than 36.8 billion tonnes. The only positive point is that this figure is lower than expected thanks to the rise of green energies and technologies, the International Energy Agency (IEA) announced on Thursday.

Emissions due to energy (more than three quarters of total greenhouse gases) keep “an unsustainable growth trajectory”, fueling climate change, warns the IEA, however, which calls for stronger action.

The disillusionment is huge for OM. Annecy, which plays in Ligue 2, created a huge surprise on Wednesday by going to eliminate Marseille (2-2, 7 pens to 6) to join Toulouse, Nantes and Lyon in the semi-finals of the Coupe de France, before the draw this Thursday at 8:50 p.m. on France 3.

OM, who are chasing an eleventh trophy in the event since their last success in 1989, spoiled their fine victory against PSG (2-1) in the previous round. But, the feat is above all immense for the Haute-Savoie club, which reached the last four of the Coupe de France for the first time in its history. For the third time in a row, the FCA went to “penos”, after Belfort in 16th and Paris FC in 8th.
