Pension: A reform is needed – economy

There are political demands and you know in advance that it will be emotional. The idea of continuing to raise the retirement age in the future, as recently suggested by the economist Martin Werding in the Funke media group, certainly falls into this category. According to the committee’s proposal, it should increase by one year every 20 years. The reason for the statement was that Labor Minister Hubertus Heil had spoken out against a further increase in the retirement age. By 2031 the threshold will rise to 67 years. Heil’s statement certainly served to reassure the working population, one of whom might at some point sign up for the SPD if the minister had his way. But the time for reassuring messages should be over. The debate about pensions must finally be conducted honestly. Because the system is no longer fair and disadvantages younger generations.
