It was clear that the moment would come, and when it did, it hit those Beijing Winter Olympics with a vengeance. The French daily sports newspaper published on Monday L’Equipe, as the first Western medium, an interview with tennis player Peng Shuai, whose fate has been making headlines around the world since the beginning of November. At the time, the 36-year-old had allegations against a high-ranking Chinese politician that he had forced her to perform sexual acts. The post in the short message service Weibo was quickly deleted, Peng Shuai disappeared for weeks before she retracted her statements during brief appearances in Beijing.
