The IOC Executive Committee has been concerned with the case of the missing tennis player Peng Shuai since today. President Bach still wants to avoid accusations against China: They are on a “promising path”.

In an interview with the dpa news agency, IOC President Thomas Bach called the “silent diplomacy” of the International Olympic Committee a “promising path” that will be pursued further. The association is sticking to its gentle course towards China.

The host of the upcoming Winter Games has been criticized not only for its human rights violations, but also for concerns about the well-being of tennis player Peng Shuai.

“Address all aspects of the case”

IOC chief Bach promised to discuss all aspects of this case, which involves allegations of sexual assault against Shuai by a top Chinese politician, with Beijing.

The political pressure on the IOC and China, however, continues to grow. Most recently, the US announced a diplomatic boycott of the Winter Games in Beijing in February.
