Pelosi still hopes for a Democratic victory in the House of Representatives

The leader of the Democrats in the United States Congress Nancy Pelosi said on Sunday that she remains hopeful that her party will retain control of the House of Representatives, despite current estimates which give a majority of a few seats to the Republicans.

“We still think we have a chance to win,” Nancy Pelosi told CNN. Five days after the midterm elections, around twenty polls for the lower house of Congress have yet to give their verdict. According to CNN and ABC, Republicans currently hold 211 of the 218 seats needed for a majority. “There are still so many ballots to count,” said Nancy Pelosi, comparing the electoral process to the Olympics: “Within half a second, you can have gold, silver, or bronze”.

A republican wave, where?

The elected official was more generally pleased with the results of the Democratic Party in the mid-term elections, ironically that the announced Republican “wave” had not taken place. “Who would have thought two months ago that this red wave would become a very small droplet, and again…”, she launched.

The elected also wanted to salute the results in the Senate, the day after the announcement of the victory of a Democratic candidate in the state of Nevada, which allows the party to keep control of the upper house. “It’s such a cause for celebration,” she said with a smile.

Asked whether she would apply to remain at the head of the Democratic procession in the House of Representatives, the current “speaker” did not wish to come forward. “My decision, again, will be based on the wishes of my family and the wishes of my colleagues, but none of this will be considered until we know the outcome” of the midterm elections.
