A car hit several people on Sunday morning near a nightclub in the Vosges, killing one and injuring several, BFMTV learned from the gendarmes, confirming information from France Bleu Sud Lorraine. The three occupants of the vehicle, who had fled, were arrested.
The tragedy occurred “shortly before 6 a.m.” in Charmes, a town about thirty kilometers north of Épinal, according to the departmental operational center for fire and rescue (Codis) in the Vosges.
“More than twenty witnesses to hear”
According to the gendarmes, an 18-year-old man died and three other people were injured. “A precise census” of the wounded “is in progress in connection with the testimonies”, explained to AFP the public prosecutor of Epinal, Frédéric Nahon, according to whom there are “more than twenty witnesses to hear”.
After fleeing, the driver of the vehicle and the two passengers who were in the car were arrested by the gendarmerie and taken into custody. The daily Morning Vosges indicates that the car in which they were traveling, a van, had been abandoned near a supermarket.
Two groups of broke people
According to the first elements communicated by the Codis, the car mowed down “two groups of people who were leaving a nightclub” and were walking along a road. They “were mowed down 200 meters apart”, adds the Codis, which specifies that there are victims in both groups.
“Between 20 and 30 people are in shock,” explained Carole Dabrigeon. According to France Bleu Sud Lorraine, a total of 26 people were on site at the time of the tragedy and a medico-psychological cell was opened in Charmes to take care of them.
