Peaks of 150 km/h, 24,000 homes deprived of electricity

Storm Domingos caused violent winds during the night from Saturday to Sunday in Gironde, which remains placed on yellow alert this Sunday for wind, floods, thunderstorms and rain floods. The town hall of Bordeaux, several districts of which such as Bastide and Caudéran remain without electricity this Sunday morning, reminds that strong gusts can still be felt this Sunday and urges caution.

In accordance with the announcements of Meteo France, wind gusts of up to 110 km/h were recorded inland and up to 151 km/h on the coast. The Gironde prefecture notes in a press release released this Sunday morning that “no nerve center has been affected and that no victims have been reported at this time”.

Lots of falling trees and electrical cables

Across the department, nearly 800 firefighters were mobilized and handled 2,980 calls. This Sunday morning, there were 117 interventions during the night and ten still in progress. They mainly concern falling trees and electrical cables. The police carried out 150 interventions, mainly linked to obstacles on the roads and flooding, specifies the prefecture in its press release.

This Sunday morning, 24,000 homes are still without electricity. “Enedis staff are mobilized to ensure a return to normal as soon as possible,” assures the prefecture.

Stopping trains, obstacles on the roads

Rail traffic has not yet resumed in the department. Reconnaissance trains will be mobilized but we already know that impacts have occurred on the Bordeaux-Labouheyre line. In the metropolis of Bordeaux, tram line B is interrupted and “operating difficulties are underway in Quinconces, impacted by numerous fallen branches”, specifies the prefecture.

On the departmental road network, around 150 interventions (mainly tree falls) took place but no notable incidents on the motorway network and the national network were noted. “59 emergency accommodation places in Bordeaux have been filled out of the 70 additional places available by the State services via 115,” the press release also specifies.

While gusts of up to 100 km/h are still forecast this Sunday morning on the coast and up to 60 to 80 km/h inland, it is strongly recommended not to frequent the coast and wooded areas.
