The US payment service provider PayPal is exploring the development of its own cryptocurrency. Jose Fernandez da Ponte, who is responsible for digital currencies and cryptocurrencies at the group, confirmed this to the news agency Bloomberg. Technical experts had discovered corresponding clues on the iPhone app from PayPal. According to da Ponte, it is about a “stablecoin”, a crypto currency that is backed by a real currency such as the dollar. Whether and how far development is being promoted is an issue that is being discussed with regulators. Before that, Facebook and the credit card company Visa had been working on their own cryptocurrency.
