Three years ago, tens of thousands of people took to the streets in Minsk to demonstrate against Alexander Lukashenko’s policies. But it didn’t help much, the protests were suppressed with violence and the dictator still has the country under control. The documentary filmmaker Pawel Siczek, who trained at the HFF Munich, made a film about this almost forgotten crisis: For “This Kind of Hope” he accompanied the former deputy foreign minister Andrej Sannikov. As a critic of the regime, he went into exile years ago, but he continues to fight for a democratic Belarus. Siczek and Sannikow will personally present their film in Munich at the cinema’s release.
