Paul Giamatti in an interview: “Many directors treat extras terribly” – Culture

Paul Giamatti, Hollywood’s most likeable film star and newly nominated for an Oscar, talks in an interview about crying at the touch of a button, the art of reading out loud from the phone book and Tom Cruise’s mysterious cake list.

Twenty years ago, the tragicomedy “Sideways” about a road trip through the vineyards of the West Coast made two underrated American cultural assets world famous: Californian Pinot Noir and the leading actor Paul Giamatti. At that time he had already had a long shadow career as a supporting actor, but the 56-year-old has now long been considered one of the best actors in Hollywood. By the way, he is also the nicest, as can be seen at the meeting in Munich. Giamatti is currently promoting his wonderful film “The Holdovers” (in theaters January 25th). In it he plays a drunken boarding school teacher who becomes a student’s last resort. The role has already earned him a Golden Globe – and of course he is also nominated for Best Actor at the Oscars.
