If anyone represents punk and poetry at the same time, it’s Patti Smith, singer, writer, tireless traveller, friend to so many, icon to so much more. I met her in her seventies: quiet, kind, friendly. She was always beautiful without ever being beautiful – as a young ethereal magical being and now, as a woman with long gray hair, on December 30th she will be 76.
