Patrick Bahners: “The return – The AfD and the new German nationalism” – culture

From

Who remembers Thomas Kemmerich? It’s been three years since this name stood for a political monstrosity. A breach of taboo excited the German public from Erfurt. The FDP provincial politician Kemmerich was elected Prime Minister in the Thuringian state parliament with the votes of the CDU and the AfD, which was particularly unsavory there. It took some pressure from the federal capital Berlin for the man to resign from office. It hasn’t played a role since then, and it hasn’t even occurred to anyone to try something similar again.
