Patricia Riekel: This is how the editor-in-chief experienced her time at “Bunte”

The journalist was editor-in-chief of the magazine “Bunte” from 1996 to 2016. How does Patricia Riekel look back on this time?

Interview: Sabine Hoffmann

You used to deal with the world of the famous and noble. Are you still interested today? Frederik of Denmark has an affair?
As before, I read all the magazines and will be a journalist until the day I die. At my funeral I’ll probably shout from the grave: “Is there anything new?!”

You became editor-in-chief at the end of 1996, when the “Bunte” was in the red. When did the breakthrough come?
That was in 1997. There were two big, tragic events back then: the murder of Gianni Versace and the death of Lady Di. After her car accident, we worked non-stop for several days to produce special editions and a book. That bonded us as a team and was the entrée.
