Passenger plane catches fire while landing at Tokyo airport

A passenger plane caught fire while landing at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport. Television images show passengers exiting the plane via an emergency slide. Nothing is known about the victims so far.

A passenger plane crashed at Tokyo Haneda International Airport. It caught fire during landing and is ablaze. Live images from the Japanese television station TBS show passengers leaving the plane via an emergency slide while the fire was being extinguished.

It is still unclear why the Japan Airlines plane caught fire on the landing approach. A collision with another aircraft is suspected. An explosive fireball could be seen. The machine was seriously damaged. Japan Airlines said all 367 passengers on board had been evacuated.

The plane with flight number 516 came from New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido Prefecture. There is currently no information about possible injuries.
