Pasing: New hall for skaters and BMX riders – Munich

The disappointment in summer 2020 was great for Munich’s skateboarders, BMX riders, parkour runners and dirt bikers. They had been promised an action sports center, the former harrow factory in Pasing was to be converted and a spectacular new building built next to it. The planning was already done – then Corona came. The city put the project on hold due to the cost.

Until now. Because this Wednesday, the sports committee of the city council decided to realize the first part of the center “promptly”. The listed former factory building at Erna-Eckstein-Straße 19 is to be renovated and expanded into a 1000 square meter meeting place for skateboarding and BMX. There are also plans for a green open space for parkour, slackline and table tennis in the outdoor area, on which badminton, volleyball and frisbee can also be played. Leisure sports and holiday offers in the city should also be possible. And if you need a break, you can relax in the “chill-out area” with hammocks and deckchairs that can be borrowed. The municipality wants to spend 12.2 million euros for the implementation of this first construction phase, including the erection of pavilions for sanitary, staff and technical rooms.

“We are sending a strong signal for trend and mass sport in Munich,” says Kathrin Abele, sports policy spokeswoman for the SPD/Volt parliamentary group. City councilor Julia Post (Greens) adds that the construction of the action center is “a gain for Pasing and the right signal to young people who were often forgotten during Corona”. Her party colleague Florian Schönemann emphasizes the ecological factor of the project: “In addition to saving gray energy by preserving the hall and greening the facade, the energy requirement is covered by photovoltaic systems on the roof and the connection to district heating.”

The plans are designed in such a way that the use of the Eggenfabrik as a sports area and the interim offers outdoors will definitely remain in place until further sports areas are created in a second construction phase with the new hall. When that will be is still open.
