Thuringian FDP wants Kemmerich as top candidate
In 2020 he was elected Prime Minister with the votes of the AfD – and held his position for a month. Now the FDP has chosen Kemmerich as the top candidate for the upcoming state elections.
Thomas Kemmerich, who was born in Aachen, was Prime Minister of Thuringia for almost a month in 2020 after members of the CDU, AfD and FDP elected him. Kemmerich accepted the election, even though the AfD’s votes were decisive. The FDP politician was unable to form a government and did not name any ministers. He announced his resignation one day after his election, which he resigned a few days later. During this time, Thuringia plunged into a deep government crisis.
