Left-wing MP Gesine Lötzsch emphasizes the need to analyze the causes of poor election results and the low polls.

The left-wing politician Gesine Lötzsch sees a lack of willingness in her party to deal with its own failures. It is wrong to blame Sahra Wagenknecht alone for poor election results and the ongoing low polls, said the deputy chairwoman of the Bundestag faction in the daily newspaper “nd” (weekend edition “nd.DieWoche”).

Wagenknecht and nine other members of the Bundestag resigned from the Left on October 23rd, meaning that it would lose its parliamentary group status. The long-time left-wing MP has announced the founding of a new party in January.

“Even during the GDR era, it was always said: Don’t discuss mistakes, we’ll look forward,” said Lötzsch. “But the results haven’t gotten any better. And I think we have to look back: up to what point could the split have been prevented and how?” The party’s weakening, both in the polls and in its presence in the Bundestag, is “politically dramatic,” said the MP. Whether and until when the Left can act as a group in the Bundestag depends on the other factions – they would “give nothing” to the Left.

The MP emphasized: “Anyone who says it is better to have a group that sticks together than a divided faction has not recognized the seriousness of the situation. It is dramatic.”
