Sahra Wagenknecht has been toying with the idea of founding a new party for a long time. That caused trouble in the left. Now the party is increasing the pressure.

The left is increasing the pressure on their MP Sahra Wagenknecht and calling on her and her fellow campaigners to return their political mandates.

“It is a requirement of political decency and fairness towards the members of our party if those who participate in a competing party’s project are consistent and give back their mandates,” said a decision by the Left party executive on Saturday. Wagenknecht has been toying with the idea of founding a new party for a long time. The Left leadership has repeatedly criticized this.

The board resolution states: “It is unacceptable that resources from mandates won for Die Linke are used to set up a competing project.” Wagenknecht has repeatedly stated that she sees no perspective for the left. “To this day, she has not complied with the request to clearly distance herself from a competing party project.” It is obvious that she is not prepared to fight for a strong left together with all her comrades. “It is therefore clear: the future of the left is a future without Sahra Wagenknecht.”

The member of parliament Wagenknecht confirmed on Friday that she wants to decide on her future in the left and a possible founding of a party by the end of the year.
