Turkey was the last member country to agree to Finland joining NATO. The majority of parliamentarians voted to include the country in the defense alliance, the state news agency Anadolu reported.

Turkey has agreed to Finland’s admission to NATO. As reported by the state news agency Anadolu, the majority of Turkish parliamentarians voted for the country to join the defense alliance.

Turkey is the latest of the 30 NATO member countries to agree to Finland’s application for membership. Hungary had already ratified the Nordic country’s accession on Monday. Now Finland, which shares a 1,300-kilometer border with Russia, only has to complete a few technical steps before it can join the military alliance.

Decision on Sweden is still pending

After the start of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine, Sweden and Finland jointly applied to join NATO, thereby breaking with a long tradition of extensive military neutrality. The decision on Sweden’s accession is still pending, as Turkey and Hungary have not yet agreed.
