Parks and cemeteries closed due to forecast gusts

The city of Nice is prepared for “any eventuality” and is mobilizing in the face of weather conditions. At noon, it activated the vigilance cell of the municipal PC and has just announced the closure of parks and gardens at 3 p.m. then that of cemeteries at 4 p.m. “until further notice”, due to “significant gusts of announced winds, and to ensure the safety of all”. Since 2 p.m. this Thursday afternoon, the Alpes-Maritimes department has been placed on yellow vigilance “rain, flooding and thunderstorms”.

Advice on behaviors to adopt

According to the prefecture, the coast of the Côte d’Azur and the south of the Var will be particularly “exposed to the risk of thunderstorms and the risk of strong accumulations, where we can reach 50 to 80 mm of rain and very locally 100 mm on the ‘episode. An isolated windy phenomenon also remains possible along the coast under these storms which may be accompanied by hail”.

In a press release, the municipality reminds us of the advice on behavior to adopt in the face of the situation, such as moving away from trees and courtyards, taking shelter in a solid building, keeping informed and avoiding moving around. But also, do not take your car and do not go down into the basement as well as protect yourself from goods exposed to the wind or which may be flooded and avoid using your telephone and electrical appliances.
