Metro door pinches coat – woman is dragged along and dies

A woman was dragged off a Paris subway in front of her family – because her coat was caught in a door. Rescue workers could no longer help.
A woman in her 40s got caught in the doorway of the Paris subway and was swept away by the departing train. The woman died at the scene of the accident, as the public prosecutor confirmed on Sunday evening. The police are investigating the exact course of the accident.
The woman was accompanied by her husband and son, reported the newspaper “Le Parisien”. The subway driver is in shock. An alcohol test was negative. Line 6 traffic was disrupted for several hours. The accident happened at the Bel-Air subway station. The family of the dead have filed a lawsuit against unknown persons, the newspaper reports. The family wishes “that the course of events be clarified, that any omissions be uncovered and, if necessary, responsibilities be determined,” the newspaper quoted from a press release by the family’s lawyer. “The victim’s husband and son, who were at the scene at the time, are extremely traumatized. They want their grief to be respected.”

RATP tweets about the metro accident in Paris
Metro operator RATP wrote on Twitter: “RATP would like to express its deep sadness and offer its condolences and support to the family and loved ones of the victim of the dramatic accident that occurred yesterday on line 6 of the Paris Metro . The Victim Assistance Unit was called in immediately.”
A 14-year-old girl died in a subway accident in Paris last week. The teenager had fallen onto the tracks and been run over by a train.
