Women victims of violence will now have a place to remember their experiences. So decided by the Council of Paris, which unanimously adopted a wish from the socialist mayor of the 13th arrondissement to this effect, Jérôme Coumet.
This memorial could be located not far from the Place de la Bergère-d’Ivry, in the 13th arrondissement, as the elected official proposed. Aimée Millot was a young shepherdess murdered by Honoré Ulbach on May 25, 1827, out of “amorous spite”.

220,000 women victims of violence each year
“This is undoubtedly a first in France”, underlined the mayor of the 13th in the Council of Paris, before breaking down the figures of violence against women. In France, a woman dies murdered by her spouse or ex-spouse every two and a half days. On Monday May 31, a woman died in Douai after being beaten by her husband. Her body and face were covered with bruises. Each year 220,000 women are victims of physical, psychological and or sexual violence.
“We want a place in Paris, in the 13th arrondissement, to be dedicated to them,” said Jérôme Coumet, for whom this place should allow “us to come together, to collect ourselves, to also shout our indignation”. “A symbolic place to pay homage to them, to break the silence”, sums up the elected official. “It is a question of recalling with force in our public space this unbearable reality”, also highlights on Twitter Laurence Patrice, Deputy Mayor of Paris.
