The Paris police headquarters denounced “shocking, unacceptable, unworthy remarks”.
The Paris prosecutor’s office announced on Wednesday November 1 that it had opened an investigation after anti-Semitic songs and comments on public transport, broadcast in a video on social networks. This investigation concerns several offenses, including “apology of terrorism”, “public insult due to membership or non-membership, real or supposed, of a specific ethnic group, nation, race or religion” or even “public incitement to hatred, violence or racial discrimination”.
The opening of this investigation comes after the Paris police headquarters reported “about shocking, unacceptable, unworthy” at the Paris prosecutor’s office. “We will not let anything slip through. All means of investigation are being implemented to quickly find the perpetrators”written on X the police headquarters.
Anti-Semitic acts on the rise
In a video broadcast on social networks, and widely relayed, a young woman films a group of individuals uttering anti-Semitic remarks and songs in the metro. Among which “not*than Jews and grandmothers” or “We are Nazis and we are proud”.
On X, the president of the Ile-de-France region, Valérie Pécresse, said “scandalized by the anti-Semitic chants heard in the metro line 3” of the Paris metro and wishes that the authors are “rapidly sanctioned”. She states that Île-de-France Mobilités, in conjunction with the RATP, “keeps all video surveillance tapes available to investigators”.
The opening of this investigation takes place in a context of an increase in anti-Semitic acts in France.ince the Hamas attack in Israel on October 7. According to Elisabeth Borne, more than 850 incidents have been recorded since this date, and more than 430 people have been arrested. On Tuesday, numerous tags representing the Star of David were discovered in Paris and in several towns in Ile-de-France.
