Paris Panthéon-Assas University suspends a lecturer for comments “with anti-Semitic connotations” – Libération

Monday October 9, the Union of Jewish Students of France denounced on its social networks comments made Monday morning by a law professor at Paris Panthéon-Assas University. According to this association, the teacher declared in front of his students: “You’re late, I’m going to do like the rave”, “There is electricity here, it’s not like in Gaza” And “Do you need rockets to wake you up?” Comments which make irony of the terrorist attacks perpetrated by Hamas against Israel, which took place on Saturday October 7, 2023 and which caused the death of more than 900 people on the Israeli side. According to another testimony, close to Jewish students at this law faculty, these remarks were made in front of first year students on the Vaugirard campus.

Contacted by CheckNewsthe Paris Panthéon-Assas University confirms having “took note of the indecent remarks, some of which had anti-Semitic connotations, made yesterday October 9, 2023 by a lecturer during his constitutional law course. Students present in the room were legitimately offended by the comments made.

The university adds that it “firmly and unreservedly condemns these words, which are incompatible with the requirements of our teaching mission. After investigation and consultations, the teacher concerned was suspended as a precautionary and temporary measure, in the interest of the service. The disciplinary section of the university has also been contacted.
