Paris calls for “respect for the ceasefire” between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the UN calls for “restraint”

After the eruption of fighting between Armenia and Azerbaijan near
the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh, France expressed its “concern” on Tuesday, demanding “respect for the cease-fire” obtained after the war which opposed them last year.

“Avoid any return to climbing”

For its part, the UN urged “all parties to restraint” in the fighting, said its deputy spokesman, Farhan Haq, stressing the need “to avoid a return to escalation” of the last year. “We urge all parties to exercise restraint, to act in accordance with the trilateral declarations of November 9 (2020) and January 11 (2021), and to resolve any possible disputes peacefully and through dialogue,” he said. he added during the daily UN press briefing.

“We want to avoid any return to escalation” of the past, said Farhan Haq, implicitly referring to last year’s war. Armenia suffered “losses” on Tuesday and of positions in the fighting against Azerbaijan near the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh, raising fears of a resumption of war in 2020.
