Pal Dardai is no longer the head coach of Hertha BSC. As the Berliners announced, the 45-year-old coach will be released from his duties with immediate effect. Tayfun will take over Korkut by the end of the season.

The dismissal is not too surprising: after the last-minute trauma from the weekend, when FC Augsburg had scored the 1-1 equalizer in stoppage time in Berlin’s Olympic Stadium, trust in Hertha coach Pal Dardai was clearly damaged. In addition to the goal in the seventh minute of stoppage time, there was also a red card for the assistant coach. All of this left its mark on the 45-year-old Hungarian. “That was the first night I woke up at three,” said Dardai on Sunday morning. After that there was nothing left to sleep. Instead, he looked at the decisive scene of the game “exactly once”: “That’s enough.”

Korkut is Hertha’s new trainer

This is probably how the club’s management saw it. Especially since the self-proclaimed “Big City Club” had to endure a bankruptcy in the capital derby against Union only a week earlier. Against VfL Wolfsburg (1: 2) a late conceded goal cost a point, and Bayer Leverkusen also scored late in the 1-1 draw against Berlin – as was the case recently with Augsburg. Hertha’s newcomer on the sidelines, Tayfun Korkut, now has the thankless task of reaching 20 points by the winter break.
