Painful side effects reported, deodorant withdrawn from market

Worrying side effects. Nuud deodorant has been withdrawn from the market by its manufacturer due to painful cysts in people who have used it, the National Medicines Agency (ANSM) said on Wednesday.

According to the ANSM, the galenic form of this deodorant, a predominantly greasy ointment “which would promote the obstruction of the pores of the armpits with the possibility of a microbial superinfection, by an occlusive effect”, may be responsible for this adverse effect. Following discussions with the manufacturer, its marketing has been temporarily suspended and all batches available at points of sale have been withdrawn from the market, as well as those available at distributors.

The cysts disappear on discontinuation of the use of the product

The drug agency specifies that users have reported “adverse effects such as painful cysts in the armpits, sometimes accompanied by an infection treated with antibiotics”. In most of the reported cases, the cysts have disappeared after discontinuing the use of the product or taking the prescribed treatments.

The ingredients used in the composition of Nuud deodorant are not individually considered to be the cause of the adverse effects reported, adds the ANSM. Nuud products are sold mainly on the Internet or via social networks, but it is also possible to obtain them in stores or parapharmacies. The brand prides itself on being vegan, highly effective thanks to a patented formula, with sustainable production and distribution.
