Paid parking expands to new areas

Bad surprise for many residents and traders in the northwest of Nantes. Since this Friday, paid parking has extended to certain streets in the Hauts-Pavés-Saint-Felix and Dervallières-Zola districts. “I will try to park a little further, but I imagine that I will not be the only one, reports this inhabitant of the boulevard Eugène-Orieux, at the limit of the new paying zone. Otherwise, no choice, I would take out the subscription for local residents [180 euros par an au tarif plein]. »

The decision, adopted by the city council last October, aims to “facilitate parking for occasional motorists” and to “encourage the use of public transport and cycling”. Postponed several times, it has indeed been implemented in recent months in the city center (extension of the red zone in particular) and in several districts (Malakoff-Saint-Donatien, Nantes south) where parking meters have appeared, since early June.

Until now free, the Wilson car park, at the western tip of the island of Nantes, must also become paying, with a passage in the red zone. Scheduled for this Friday, this big change will finally take place during the month of September, as indicated by the parking card issued by the city.
