Record rain for September

Rainfall of more than 100 liters per square meter was registered on the islands of Gran Canaria, Tenerife and La Gomera, La Palma and Hierro.

The Spanish authorities put the entire archipelago on alert. According to the weather agency Aemet, record amounts of precipitation were recorded for September in Tenerife in particular.

Geologically speaking, the archipelago belongs to Africa with its location south-west of Morocco. As part of Spain, however, it is politically part of the EU. The storm is expected to be over by Monday morning.
