Out of confidence, Caroline Garcia reconnects with her trainer Bertrand Perret

The best confiotes are made in old pots. French number one Caroline Garcia announces in the columns of The Team, this Thursday, resume her collaboration with Bertrand Perret, coach with whom she reached the fourth world rank last year. The Frenchwoman still occupies fourth place in the WTA rankings, but she did not confirm at the start of the year her canonical end to the season, which had seen her win the prestigious Masters in Fort Worth (Texas), last November.

A few weeks before this feat, his cooperation had abruptly ended with his trainer Bertrand Perret. And, more recently, the Lyonnaise also lost her physical trainer, Laura Legoupil. Garcia remains on an elimination as soon as he entered the Miami Masters 1000 at the end of March and, in the process, took a break. “It hasn’t been easy lately, on and off the court,” admitted the player, announcing in this interview the resumption of her collaboration with Perret.

Garcia remains vague on the reasons for their separation

“The way Bertrand helped me last year worked well and I want to continue the adventure”, explains “Caro”, who says he has “one more page that can be written” with this coach. “I want to see what we can get. My game can still progress well. In her interview with the sports daily, Caroline Garcia says little more about the reasons for Perret’s abrupt departure last October, after a triumphant American tour at the end of the summer.

If “problems” had “ended up spoiling the atmosphere”, “we both want to put last year behind us”, evacuates the Lyonnaise, who on the other hand provides some clues as to how they reconnected . “It’s been a few weeks. We spoke several times with Bertrand. »

A loss of confidence in 2023

“For the moment, the only confirmed position is that of Bertrand”, also specifies the 29-year-old player, when asked if she has managed to reconstitute a complete staff. “I still have thoughts to make about a physical trainer and a physiotherapist. I have several options. The departure of Laura “Legoupil, with whom she did “a great job for sixteen months”, “is recent so it’s the start of the tests”, indicates the Frenchwoman.

Asked about her half-hearted start to the season, Caroline Garcia finally admits having “lost confidence”. “I put pressure on myself. The external expectations put me also. And I did not manage to play as relaxed, ”she notes.
