Natascha Kohnen is no longer applying for a seat in the state parliament in the Munich-Land Süd constituency, in the north Annette Ganssmüller-Maluche failed in 2018 with an attempt to take Peter Paul Gantzer’s place in the Maximilianeum. The Munich Land SPD must therefore regroup for the 2023 state elections – and has apparently already found what it is looking for in filling one of the two candidate positions: District chairman Florian Schardt is said to be applying for a mandate for the Social Democrats in the northern constituency. The 40-year-old Ottobrunner remains reserved when asked by SZ: “I don’t want to comment on that,” says Schardt, who does not deny the rumors either.
This would be supported by the fact that the entrepreneur has not only reunited the district association, which has been at odds in recent years, since taking office in 2019. He is also held in high esteem by the powerful SPD mayors from the northern municipalities of the district, and is also well-connected and well-known among the Social Democrats in the city of Munich. This, in turn, is important if you want to secure a seat in the Bavarian Parliament, even though you cannot do so via direct elections in the constituency, i.e. via the first votes. In Schardt’s case, the second votes that he collects in the entire constituency of Upper Bavaria could be decisive.
As can be heard from the SPD district association, a decision-making process is to be initiated in March, and an official selection of candidates is then to take place in September.
