Otto Falckenberg School: Malte Jelden becomes new head – Munich

One of Germany’s most renowned acting schools is getting a new director – from its own ranks: Malte Jelden will lead the Otto Falckenberg School from September 2024. Many stage and film stars from Mario Adorf to Gisela Schneeberger began their professional careers in the traditional municipal academy for acting and directing, which is closely linked to the Kammerspiele artistically and administratively. And Jelden has already helped many: he has been teaching directing here since 2007 and has been leading this training course since 2017.

The cultural committee of the city of Munich appointed Jelden on Thursday as the successor to Jochen Noch, who is retiring next summer. “With Malte Jelden, we have gained a headmaster who already knows his new tasks well. He has been working at the Otto Falckenberg School as a lecturer for the further development of training for 16 years,” said cultural advisor Anton Biebl. Kammerspiele director Barbara Mundel also thinks the 52-year-old, who was a dramaturge at the theater under Frank Baumbauer and Johan Simons, is a good choice: He knows the theater scene well and has been producing exciting productions nationwide for many years.

The designee thanked himself for entrusting him with the school and its 50 students. “With a great team of 16 teachers, we prepare young people for acting or directing careers. We want to continue to teach crafts and enable artistic freedom.”
