From a German perspective, the nominations for the upcoming Oscars are a complete success. Actress Sandra Hülser made it into the king or queen category of “best actress” for her performance in the French drama “Anatomy of a Case”. This should finally make her an international star. Veteran director Wim Wenders is nominated for best international film with “Perfect Days”. Since the German shot the film in Japan, he is also in the running for this country. He faces competition in this category from the successful German drama “The Teacher’s Room” by İlker Çatak, which also made it into the final selection. These nominations alone are a small victory, even if it isn’t enough to win in the end, because the 2023 film vintage was exceptionally strong.
