With Trump there would be no wars in Ukraine and the Middle East – Hungary’s Prime Minister Orban is convinced of that. After a meeting at Mar-a-Lago, he sang his praises. Criticism comes from US President Biden.
They share many views and have had friendly relations for years: Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and former US President Donald Trump. Orban has now visited Trump at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida and praised him as the “President of Peace” after the meeting.
In a video message on Facebook entitled “Hungary needs peace. His name: Donald Trump,” Orban said: “We Hungarians only have one thing to do, which is to honestly admit: the world would be better and it would be better for Hungary “If President Donald Trump were to return (to power).”
During Trump’s term in office, there was peace in the Middle East and Ukraine, and these wars would not exist today if Trump were US President, Orban continued. Trump “offered respect in the world and thereby created the conditions for peace.” He also expects that Trump’s return to the White House will lead to a revival of bilateral trade relations.
Trump: “Orban is fantastic”
Orban previously shared a photo of himself with Trump and wrote: “Make America great again, Mr. President.”
Trump also praised the guest effusively in a speech captured on video: “No one is better, smarter or a better leader than Viktor Orban. He is fantastic.” If Orban says something, then that will happen, Trump continued. “He’s the boss.”
Before meeting Trump, Orban also made an appearance at the conservative Heritage Foundation in Washington and a meeting with Trump’s former advisor, the ultra-right publicist Steve Bannon.
Biden rails against Orban
US President Joe Biden sharply criticized the meeting. “Do you know who he’s seeing at Mar-a-Lago today?” he asked at a campaign appearance in Philadelphia. “Orban from Hungary, who has stated that he does not believe that democracy works and who wants a dictatorship.” Biden added: “I see a future in which we defend democracy, not weaken it.”
Trump wants to become US president again
Trump and Orban regularly give public eulogies about each other. Orban was the only head of government of an EU country who openly supported the Republican before Trump’s election as president in 2016. The two have a lot in common politically.
Bannon once described the Hungarian as “Trump before Trump.” Orban has been in power in Hungary since 2010.
Trump wants to run against Biden in the election on November 5th and is heading for another nomination as the Republican presidential candidate. Given Trump’s autocratic tendencies, Biden describes the election as a fateful election for US democracy.
