Orange vigilance extended to 18 departments, announces Météo-France

The third heatwave episode of the summer continues in mainland France with the placing of Morbihan and Finistère on heatwave orange vigilance, bringing the number of departments to 18, mainly in the West, before an expected peak at the end of the week, a announced on Wednesday Météo-France.

The orange level of the heatwave alert tells citizens to be “very vigilant” in the face of the heat, which is strong during the day and at night, which involves health risks. On the lower notch, around thirty departments have been placed on yellow vigilance (“be careful”), with the addition of Paris and several in Ile-de-France (Yvelines, Seine-et-Marne, Essonne), North or even Isère.

Up to 40 degrees in the Southwest

The heat wave regained ground on Wednesday in the Southwest with maximum temperatures expected up to 40 degrees locally. “By the end of the afternoon, temperatures can still gain 1 to 2 degrees in general”, warned Météo-France in its 4 p.m. bulletin.

Then, “the high temperatures will gradually reach the regions further north with 35 degrees expected from Friday in the Paris region”, also indicated the same source. The heat wave is expected to end on Sunday with thunderstorms expected across France, causing a “sharp drop in temperatures”.
