The US premiere of “Oppenheimer” took place without stars like Matt Damon. Only director Christopher Nolan was present.

The actors’ strike in Hollywood continues to have consequences for the entire US film industry. So took the five-time Oscar-nominated star director Christopher Nolan (52) attended the US premiere of his upcoming film “Oppenheimer” on Monday evening (July 17) without the illustrious cast of Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr. and leading actor Cillian Murphy. During the strike of the SAG-AFTRA actors’ union, its members also cancel press events such as gala premieres, which are usually used to promote large-scale productions by the Hollywood dream factory.

Instead, crew members celebrate the “Oppenheimer” premiere behind the scenes

Nolan appeared at the screening of his new film with his wife and producer Emma Thomas (51). The filmmaker opted for a dark gray suit with a silver tie for the event. Thomas chose a black midi dress and combined it with matching peep-toes, as “People” reports.

The cast of “Oppenheimer”, which also includes Oscar winners Rami Malek, Florence Pugh and Emily Blunt, had already left the film’s UK premiere in London last Thursday. At that time it was already foreseeable that the actors’ union SAG-AFTRA would go on strike.

The Universal film studio therefore canceled the planned red carpet for the US premiere of “Oppenheimer”. However, the screening of the three-hour work was not canceled entirely. Instead, the New York premiere was intended to celebrate crew members who worked behind the scenes of the large-scale production. This was announced by Universal in a statement.
