Opioid crisis – US pharmacy chains fined millions – Economy

Walmart, CVS and Walgreens have been ordered to pay a total of $650 million in a landmark US opioid lawsuit. The responsible federal judge ruled that the corporations must share in the costs of dealing with the drug crisis in Ohio. In November, a jury found the companies to be partly to blame for the state’s opioid crisis because their pharmacy chains had allegedly failed to adequately control the sale of addictive painkillers. Two counties in Ohio had sued. They are demanding billions of dollars in compensation for costs they have incurred battling opioid addiction and overdoses.
