Open-air swimming pools in Munich: Free entry up to the twelfth birthday – Munich

Even if the temperatures are not yet inviting for swimming in the open air, Munich’s outdoor pools are already preparing for the new season. There is good news for the people of Munich, which the city council will decide on this Tuesday, according to information from the green-red coalition: Children up to their twelfth birthday should be allowed to splash, slide and jump for free again this year. The free offer for owners of the Munich and holiday passes should also remain in place. And in June and July, the seven outdoor pools are now even supposed to be open until 9 p.m. on warm days.

The season starts on May 2nd in the Schyrenbad. In the middle of the month, operations should start in the Maria Einsiedel natural pool, in the Michaelibad, in the Ungererbad and in the Westbad. At that time, the Dantebad, which was closed in winter, and the Prinzregentenbad, which had to end the season earlier last year due to a fire in the sauna, will reopen. The Bad Georgenschwaige will remain closed this year because it is being converted into a natural pool.

Stadtwerke München (SWM), as the operator of the pools, hopes that they will be able to deal with the lack of seasonal workers better this season than in 2022. Last summer, staffing problems and waves of illness led to the later opening of the Maria Einsiedel pool and the temporary loss of early swimmers . There were also restrictions on saunas and indoor pools until Pentecost. The situation is also “challenging” this summer, said an SWM spokeswoman. But at the moment we are assuming a normal start.

The outdoor pool season should run without restrictions like before the pandemic and the Ukraine war. The public utility company does not expect access restrictions, and unlike in some indoor pools in winter, there is no risk of the water temperature dropping. However, one innovation from the Corona period will remain: Munich residents can continue to book tickets online. These can now also be purchased in the Munich app and validated directly at the turnstile without queuing. During the summer holidays there will again be a two-week special program for children and young people in the three large pools, the Michaelibad, the Ungererbad and the Westbad.
