“Only ten minutes present”: Johnson has to explain illegal birthday party

“Only present for ten minutes”
Johnson has to explain illegal birthday party

The British press tirelessly unearths new details about Prime Minister Johnson’s Partygate affair: it is currently about an illegal birthday party. The interior designer is said to have celebrated with her, whose high bills caused a scandal of her own for the head of government.

A media report made new allegations against British Prime Minister Boris Johnson that he had disregarded the corona lockdown rules. Johnson celebrated his birthday in June 2020 despite the ban on indoor contact, broadcaster ITV News reported.

The broadcaster quoted a reply from the Prime Minister’s office, after which some employees in the cabinet room had gathered to wish Johnson a happy birthday. “He stayed there for less than ten minutes,” the letter said. The ITV news chief said around 30 guests attended the birthday party and Johnson’s wife Carrie surprised him with a cake.

According to the broadcaster, however, not only employees of the seat of government were present. ITV smugly writes that it is believed that interior designer Lulu Lytle is not an employee of 10 Downing Street. At the time, Lytle was renovating the Prime Minister’s flat, which caused a scandal of its own because of the outrageous expense.

Second party in the evening?

The broadcaster also reports that on the evening of the birthday, friends of the prime minister are said to have continued to celebrate at the seat of government. That would also have violated the applicable lockdown rules. This was also denied by the Prime Minister’s office. Instead, the PM only partied outside with a small number of family members, his office told ITV.

Johnson recently had to apologize repeatedly for various parties and possible misjudgments – including with Queen Elizabeth. It was about two parties that took place in April 2021 on the eve of the funeral of Queen Elizabeth’s husband Prince Philip. “I deeply and bitterly regret these decisions. I can only repeat my apologies to the Queen and the country,” Johnson said.

The latest revelations have slumped approval ratings for Johnson, who has been battered by various scandals for weeks, and also for his Conservative party. Johnson was able to fend off an internal party revolt last week.
