One Piece Odyssey explains to you the peculiarities of its turn-based combat system • JPGAMES.DE

In an interview in the in-house blog talks about producer Katsuaki Tsuzuki One Piece Odyssey and its concept, locations and combat system. One Piece Odyssey takes place in a large world and relies on a classic, turn-based combat system. And yes there is sometimes needs explanation, as Naoki Yoshida knows.

“The combat system is turn-based, offering customized attacks for each member of the Straw Hats. Players also have the option of avoiding enemies and thus fights.”

Classic JRPG functions would be used, but also special approaches that would make One Piece Odyssey unique. The feeling of playing side-by-side with each straw hat is paramount.

The Scrambled Area Battle was developed as a special game system for the strategic battle of the characters. “In this system, combat maps are divided into different areas that are randomly assigned to different enemies and combat-ready crew members,” explains Katsuaki Tsuzuki.

The aim is to find the best strategy based on the character’s abilities, combining the strengths, weaknesses and abilities of the opponents. “However, the scope, range and side effects of your own attacks must not be ignored either,” it says.

“These features reinforce the uniqueness of the different characters and mean that every fight – even against the same opponents – can be completely different. In order to win, players need to know about each member and the field.”

In addition, during a normal fight, there could also be an event that splits the party, or inflicts various effects such as immobilisation, causing you to have to rethink your strategy.

Well, are you curious to see if this classic combat system will work for you? One Piece Odyssey is due out later this year for PlayStation, Xbox Series, and PC Steam. You can find the details of the game so far in our Article Archive.
