one of the victims of the Lyon station attacker diverted his attention

The alleged person responsible for the knife attack at Lyon station confided that a passerby had diverted his attention, when he wanted to attack a woman with a hammer.

A knife attack left three people injured, including one seriously, at Lyon station this Saturday, February 3. The toll could have been higher without the intervention of Claude D., 66 years old, the passerby most seriously stabbed by the alleged attacker.

During his custody, the assailant confided that Claude D. had diverted his attention, while he wanted to attack a woman with a hammer.

The passerby stood in front of the attacker before telling him: “come at me, come after me!”

A usable video

Still according to information from BFMTV, a scene visible on the only usable video of this assassination attempt at the Gare de Lyon was viewed this Monday, February 5, by investigators from the 2nd judicial police district (DPJ), in charge of investigations, in the presence of the suspect during his hearing.

The attacker then took out his knife which he was wearing at his belt and then struck the sixty-year-old in the abdomen, before making him fall to the ground. In the fall, the assailant lost his knife, he then grabbed his hammer to hit Claude D twice.

Another passerby then intervened by shoving the attacker, before tackling him to the ground.

The alleged person responsible for the knife attack was brought in on the evening of Monday February 5, BFMTV learned from a source close to the case.

He was taken to the depot of the Paris judicial court where he will spend the night, before being presented on the morning of Tuesday February 6 to an investigating judge.
