This Thursday morning, gathered in the depots, the garbage collectors of Toulouse Métropole voted the end of the strike and the resumption of work. “Reluctantly”, according to Benoît Fontanilles of the FAFPT union, member of the Intersyndicale. Since December 16, the ripeurs had started a movement to denounce the end of the “finished party”, this provision which allowed them to return home once their tour had been completed.
To justify this measure, which took effect on January 1, elected officials relied on the Civil Service Transformation Act, which now requires local officials to work 1,607 hours per year, or 35 hours per week, against 25 hours. until now.
The metropolis makes a gesture
As the negotiations progressed, the inter-union accepted the end of the finished job, but asked in return for 34 days of compensation to compensate for the arduousness of the work of garbage collectors. Initially, the Metropolis offered them only two. On Wednesday, after a new meeting, the representatives of the management made a step forward by proposing this time eleven days of compensation, as well as three days for public holidays, and reduced hours during the two summer months. “There are still some discussions but the vote should be final”, confirmed Nicolas Refutin, of the FO Toulouse Méttropole union.
This proposal was therefore accepted. The garbage collectors will therefore resume work and collect the tons of waste that have accumulated in recent days on the sidewalks of the Pink City and the surrounding municipalities.
