One dead in a storm in Upper Bavaria – power lines destroyed

At a severe storm in the district of Freising According to the district office, one person died. Train traffic between Freising and Landshut via Moosburg/Isar was suspended up to and including Tuesday.

13,000 households without electricity

According to a spokeswoman for Stadtwerke München (SWM), the thunderstorm around 4:30 p.m. damaged several high-voltage lines near Moosburg, which lead to Uppenborn and Munich. Conductors attached to the power poles had been torn from their anchorage in a forest area. There was no danger to people there. Around 13,000 households were initially without electricity.

At 10:00 p.m., the Stadtwerke succeeded in reconnecting Moosburg to the high-voltage grid. According to the municipal utility, customers are now gradually being integrated back into the power supply.

A power outage in Munich-Bogenhausen in the late afternoon at around 5 p.m. lasted just over an hour. Around 3,000 households were affected. According to the SWM spokeswoman, the reason is still unclear.

Fallen trees in Lower Bavaria

There were also severe storms in Lower Bavaria. There were a dozen fallen trees reported by early evening, it said at the police headquarters in Lower Bavaria in Straubing. According to the local operations center, heavy rain also caused several basements to fill up, and roofs were also covered.

Extreme thunderstorm warning

The German Weather Service (DWD) had warned of extreme thunderstorms in Upper and Lower Bavaria. At times, the highest warning level 4 applied.

The DWD predicts that thunderstorms, some of them severe, could also occur throughout the Free State in the next few days – occasionally with heavy rain, hail and gusts of wind around 80 kilometers per hour.
