Born German, becoming French, from a Jewish family, and a critical atheist: the journalist Alfred Grosser wanted to have an “enlightening effect through knowledge and warmth” and to reconcile Europe.

As far as one can tell, Alfred Grosser had a relaxed relationship with his own death. When he was asked in an interview more than ten years ago whether the preparation for the end made him sad, he said: “Not at all.” There’s only one thing that bothers him about dying: “That I can’t be annoyed by the obituaries.”
