He turned things around: ski jumper Karl Geiger wins the bronze medal! After recent disappointing results, the joy is all the greater.

Karl Geiger has deciphered the large hill in China: In the individual ski jump competition, the 29-year-old flies to an excellent third place. Marius Lindvik of Norway wins the competition, Ryoyu Kobayashi of Japan secures the silver medal. Like Geiger, Markus Eisenbichler continued his previous top results and ended up in fifth place. The other two German jumpers, Constantin Schmid and Pius Paschke, complete the good German result in 13th and 29th place.

“These were hard days for me personally,” Geiger summed up live on ZDF after the Flower Ceremony. The man from Oberstdorf didn’t manage well on the normal hill. Occupied only rear seats. A whole mountain of stones fell from his soul. “My wife had to endure a lot with me. I received incredible support. I’m incredibly grateful.”

Olympia 2022: In the mixed competition, the Germans were still at a disadvantage

Winning the medal was “for the whole team,” explained Paschke in an interview with ZDF after the competition. Because a week ago in the mixed competition, the German team was still very disappointed and angry. Star jumper Katharina Althaus, silver medalist in women’s individual jumping, was disqualified because the suit was too big.

Next Monday, the ski jumpers still have to decide with the team. National coach Stefan Horngacher will probably rely on Stephan Leyhe alongside Geiger, Eisenbichler and Schmid. The latter had not been able to qualify for the individual competition.
